Veteran musher 16, Aliy Zirkle, heads back to her sled after checking on her dogs. Rookie number 71, Allen Moore, is probably observing how an experienced musher gets the job done.
I am a third grade Language Arts teacher in a school in The Woodlands, Texas. I was born in Dallas, but had many wonderful years in between at Sharon, PA; Warren, OH; and Akron, OH. One of my sisters lives in Fairbanks, AK, and she is the one who got me "hooked" on the Iditarod. I am setting up a blog to share with my third graders in Texas when I travel to Alaska in March 2007 to observe first hand the start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. I have enjoyed teaching my students all the history and excitement of this race for about five years now. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to see the race start in person and send reports with photos back to my school.
