Volunteers

Here also is a photo of one of the hundreds of volunteers who were scurrying here and there. I was thinking of all the other hundreds of volunteers who sew booties, serve as dog handlers at the race start, work at checkpoints organizing food and straw drops, work as volunteer veterinarians to check the dogs at checkpoints, serve as pilots who fly the small planes to deliver supplies, and transport sick or injured dogs, and those who organize tickets sales and sell Iditarod merchandise. This is a HUGE operation. Many of these people have been working on behalf of this 35th running Iditarod since the beginning in 1973!
